Most museums and huge art galleries own more works than they have room to display. It is located on the Right Bank of the Seine within the metropolis’s 1st arrondissement and residential to some of the most canonical works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory. The museum is housed within the Louvre Palace, initially constructed in the late 12th to 13th century underneath Philip II.
